Long gone are the days where we are born, grow up, live, marry, raise children and die in the same town. The world is getting smaller and smaller and families are now spread out over countries and even continents.
Whilst airfares are getting cheaper all the time, a flight can still be a luxury that some people cannot afford. So what can you do when your guests you’ve invited cannot afford to fly to be with you at your wedding?
Most people find telegrams a really cute idea. It is reminiscent of days gone by when, in our mind, the world was a simpler place and family values were strong. So, we go with tradition and read out telegrams. It’s a lovely thought and gesture but I would highly recommend NOT reading out telegrams at your reception, unless (in the case of the family matriarch who is too ill to come to your day) it is absolutely vital.
Hearing a telegram from distant Uncle Stan that lives in Charleston will cut into your reception BIG TIME.
The best way to think of telegrams is by imagining that each telegram is a speech all on its own.
